What these products do
Curing compound
A liquid sprayed on fresh concrete. It forms a film that reduces moisture loss so the concrete can cure properly, and is useful where water curing is not practical.
Water, resin and wax based
They differ in the film they form. Resin based films wear off with time. Wax based films may need removal before paint, flooring or topping.
Mould release agent
Applied on formwork so the shuttering comes off cleanly and the concrete surface stays good.
Surface retarder
Slows setting at the surface so it can be washed off for an exposed finish.
Pump primer
A lubricating mix pushed through the line first so concrete moves smoothly through a boom placer.
Good practice
- Apply as soon as the free water has left the surface after finishing, and before the surface dries out.
- Spray evenly at the rate on the datasheet. Stir water based products before use.
- Check compatibility first if paint, tiles or flooring will go on top.
Membrane forming curing compounds are commonly specified to ASTM C309.
